Today I had the great joy of being able to sit down with London’s darling supermodel, Chiffon. I have had such a blast talking with him and have had many asking for the complete transcript of the interview for reading. So, of course, here you go!

Who is Chiffon?

Well, I’m a model. You’ll probably see me as the face of Beyond. They have some pretty comfy clothes. I’ve called London home since I finished uni back in 2023. Love it here.

London comes up a lot around you.

What does this city mean to you?

Oh, wow! Well. I love it here. As I said, I moved here after I finished uni. I guess I’ve always loved it when I was little, so I took the chance to stay. It’s a gorgeous city, so much heritage and culture. Food everywhere too! I guess it’s hard to be bored. London is home.

We don’t doubt that for a second. Well, as a Brit…

Tea or coffee?

Wow, throwing me in the deep end. Uhm. Tea. But with like fifty sugars and mostly milk. Actually, can we add hot chocolate to the list? But still with fifty sugars, haha!

Fifty? I’m amazed you can sit still!

Are you more of a night owl or early bird?

I guess I’m a lot more of an early riser! I love the day time really. The earlier I can wake up and experience the day, the happier I feel. The night is alright I guess, but the day. Everyone’s awake! It’s like a community.

We love a community. I agree.

How did you get into modelling?

I finished uni and moved to London. I had no business plans or anything. So I went to some auditions and an agency took me in. I started small, it was scary.

That wasn’t even too long ago, either.

Do you remember your first professional photoshoot?

Like I said, I was terrified. I was modelling a shirt but I was sweating so much from nerves that they had to get me a second shirt. I was so embarrassed!

Hey, being nervous is totally allowed.

How did you become the face of Beyond?

Oh, well, I don’t really know. One day I was modelling shirts. The next I was on the runway wearing Dior, and then all of a sudden I’m on the front cover of Vogue. It was luck I guess. Luck and help from friends.

It’s refreshing to hear someone in your position say that.

What makes Beyond different from other fashion brands?

Well, their clothes are so comfy. I guess it’s because it’s loungewear, but still. I never go on holiday without my Beyond sweats. They’re also really stylish, y’know. And their clothes are actually colourful! Black and white is so boring!

Somewhere, a minimalist just gasped. And, hence your love of pink.

Is pink really your favourite colour, or has Beyond influenced you?

No joke, I think I influenced Beyond. I started wearing my pink bow earring one day and the stylist of the shoot loved it so much that I kept it in for the shoot. Then that campaign blew up! I found out recently that they were thinking of changing the signature colour of Beyond but switched up afterwards because of my earring.

Not many models can say they influenced their brand. It was lucky you had that earring that day then.

What is your favourite piece from the current Beyond collection?

Well I guess I love the sweats a lot because they’re so comfy. But I think maybe the sweater jacket. Throw on a crop underneath, zip the jacket up halfway. Bam. Amazing outfit to go out in.

That jacket is very comfy, I agree.

Do you have any favourite brand to work with?

Well Beyond is the best! But aside from Beyond, McQueen was pretty great. They had so much food left on the table, like sushi and little tiny sandwiches. Oh my god, I love little tiny sandwiches.

Oh, we have some on the table over there.

I know, I’ve been eyeing them up for a while.

Someone get this man some tiny sandwiches!

No cucumber though!

I hate cucumber too!

What’s the strangest direction a photographer has given you?

I immediately think of an underwear shoot. They kept saying “Lower, lower lower,” until I was pretty much modelling air.  I mean, I’m happy to but I thought we were advertising boxers!

I bet there’s loads of people who would rather buy you over boxers.

Do you have a favourite photographer to work with?

Absolutely. My photographer at Beyond is Lauren Ameli, she’s so lovely. She is the best at portraits. Always gets the right angles really quickly before the pose starts to ache. She’s great, that Lauren, makes you forget you’ve been standing in the same pose for twenty minutes.

Have you ever had any wardrobe malfunction on set?

Other than sweating through those shirts, well. There was a time where I was doing a shoot in the sea. For some reason I was asked to wear white. Yeah those white briefs they had me in were not a good idea. A wave rolled past and all of a sudden I’m stood in the Mediterranean practically skinny dipping, haha!

If it were a swimwear shoot, it might have been on brand.

What campaign are you most proud of?

Probably, my first. I’ve always loved my first because it sort of, gave me all of this now. Everything after that came because someone saw those ads. I’m really proud of that one, which is weird because I look back and I was mortified!

What is your skincare routine?

I don’t actually have one. I wake up at 6 AM and then I go over to the gym for my morning swim and steam. Then I sit in the sun, maybe take a nap, until I’m dry. Then I get on with my day. I guess I’m blessed with perfect skin?

Lucky. Some readers are going to hate you for that.

Haha, I know, apologies in advance.

What’s one fashion trend you’d never wear?

No one could ever force me to wear a bucket hat. Ever. I think I look like a toddler about to ask my mum for an ice cream… 

Do you dress differently when no one’s looking?

When no one is looking? There’s always someone looking. When I’m home alone I love to be naked. Unfortunately, the paparazzi love it too. Now my ass is plastered across the internet. It’s been in more tabloids than I can count. If they asked first I’d be happy to oblige them, I got a good butt.

At least they got your good side.

I have two good sides.

What is your favourite place to relax in London?

My apartment. 100%. Sitting in the sun in the window. Love it. But outside my apartment, probably the museums. I love the V&A. I go there a lot and daydream.

If you weren’t a model, what would you be doing?

Back in university, I studied architecture. Mum always used to take me to those pretty countryside houses and castles when I was little. I started loving them. I guess if I stuck with that I’d be building pretty buildings.

Can you design my next house for me.

Would love to.

How do you handle being recognised in public?

They don’t know what to say really. They come up to me and ask for a photo, but, because I’m a model, they don’t really know who I am. I think it’s funny, they’ve seen my butt on Twitter and they want is a selfie.

Maybe they’re starstruck.

Maybe so, maybe so.

Do you ever get surprised with gifts or messages?

With gifts, no. With messages, a surplus. My DM’s are overloaded with messages. It’s a minefield though, sometimes I’ll get a sweet message if I’m lucky, otherwise it’s a dick pic or boob shot.

Who doesn’t love a boob shot?

Me.

Have you ever Googled yourself?

I have. Frequently. It’s one of those absurd things you used to do as a kid just to see what will come up. But when you’re a kid nothing comes up, so it’s just strange to see a lot of me now.

What’s your biggest guilty pleasure?

Bubble tea. I once drank about 6 in one day. I don’t know how I still have these abs.

Go to flavour?

In the winter, strawberry milk with tapioca. In the summer it’s gotta be a pineapple fruit tea with coconut jelly.

Bangers.

What’s your comfort food after a long shoot?

If those tiny sandwiches aren’t eaten, then I’ll go to the shop and get a pack of imitation crab sticks. They’re so good.

What is something your fans would be surprised to learn about you?

Hmm. I can play three instruments. Saxophone, flute and piano. Though I prefer an organ to a piano.

You have got to play for us sometime.

I don’t think I can one-man-band two woodwinds, haha!

What’s the most luxurious thing you’ve ever experienced?

Paris Fashion Week. I was given a penthouse suite all to myself with a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower. Every night I dined out with some really important people in some really expensive restaurants. I’ve never eaten so much caviar or drank so much wine. I don’t even like wine.

When you’re offered something that expensive, you gotta oblige.

You really do.

What is your favourite city outside of London?

Well I recently travelled to New York for a collaboration photo shoot. New York was amazing! So many things everywhere! But I think I’d have to say Paris. I love the buildings there. One day, I’ll get an apartment in Paris. I’ll look at all the fancy buildings. Shut me up before I nerd out about architecture!

If you could shoot a campaign anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Tokyo. Imagine a shoot on top of Mount Fuji. Or under the pretty cherry blossoms.

You’d blend in.

Like a pink ninja.

What’s the funniest rumour you’ve heard about yourself?

Probably that I’m a secret pornstar. I am not. Twitter seemed to think so a few months ago. The cat in the video is not me!

Is there a shoot you’ve always dreamed of doing?

I’d love to do more wild shoots. Like one of those cool underwater ones where the hair and fabric is so flowy.

Oh yeah! I love those! Like a mermaid.

I want to be a mermaid so bad!

What is your favourite thing to model?

Loungewear. One thing I love, is being comfy. So if I have to stand around for twenty minutes, I’d rather be in some comfy trousers than some skimpy cold briefs.

Do they not have the heating on for underwear shoots?

I wish.

Do you ever get nervous before an underwear shoot?

Yeah, sometimes. When there’s a lot of people in the room, it’s a bit daunting to be in front of all those people in just a thin layer of fabric. I know the world has seen my balls by now, but still.

How much trust do you need to have in the people behind the camera?

When it’s Lauren, I’m okay with whatever. Anyone other than Lauren I feel a bit sceptical around. I don’t entirely trust their directions. Or their judgement.

Always get you Lauren then?

If it’s possible.

Do you ever feel pressure to always look perfect?

Not at all! I’m thankful I’m mostly seen in loungewear. Means I’m not expected to be in suits all the time.

You can leave the house in pyjamas.

I already have, many times.

You’ve posed in many things from oversized jumpers to almost nothing. Which is more difficult?

When you model, you’re used to the fabric following your body, so you’re used to your body. With oversized clothes it’s difficult to model. I feel like I’m being eaten! Being naked is easier to look hot in. But I love oversized for being comfortable.

Less clothing is better?

Weirdly, yeah.

Is there a part of your body you’re secretly most proud of?

My tail. It’s pink! And it accentuates my waist and thighs.

I was expecting abs. Or your bum.

I think everyone was, haha!

Have you ever accidentally flashed someone in a shoot.

I once had an underwear shoot but we were in a time crunch. I needed to swap boxers every few photos so I just decided to change in front of everyone.

Flashing a whole team of people. I’m sure they’re used to it.

We all have something down there.

Occupational hazard?

Pretty much.

Does your family ever comment on your campaigns?

My mum collects every magazine with me in. There’s a bookshelf in her living room full of magazines I’m in. So that is a lot of me in boxers. It’s funny when she tells me she has guests over.

Your mum sounds like your biggest fan.

She’s pretty great, yeah.

What’s your reaction when you see paparazzi photos of you online?

First of all I think, when was that? Then I think, I look good from this angle. If it’s a nude, they stopped surprising me. I see it in the mirror every morning.

You clearly don’t struggle with confidence.

Not really. I appreciate me.

Your recent collaboration in New York caused quite a splash. What was it like working with them?

That dog is really quiet. I never know what he’s thinking. He’s a cool guy, but I wish I could get inside his head. His team was really nice as well. I’m happy I went! Happy with the results too. I’d love to do another collaboration with him!

London or New York – who has better fashion?

I hate to say it, but, New York. There’s so much more colour and vibrancy! Walking around London it’s so monotone. I want more colour in the world! Pink, purple, yellow, red! Anything but black and white!

If the world could be pink, huh?

If you were asked to design your own collection, what would it look like?

More crop tops, more booty shorts, maybe some fishnets.

What makes you happiest when no one is around?

Listening to music and cooking. Sitting on the sofa getting crumbs everywhere. Then having dessert.

You make yourself sound surprisingly ordinary.

I am ordinary. I might be on magazine covers but I’m still a guy.

What is something you wish people understood about modelling?

Anyone can do it. You don’t have to be pretty or thin. If you have made clothes and you love them, you should model them yourself, no matter what you are under your clothes. If you love them then that’s what matters.

Has modelling changed the way you see yourself?

Nah, not really. I still act like me. I’ve always loved my body. Hence why I don’t really care that my butt is everywhere online. 

What’s the boldest thing you’ve agreed to wear, or not wear, for a shoot?

Lucky for you, nothing. So, I guess, myself? Just last week I had a nude shoot. That shoot will be out soon.

That’s exactly the answer I expected from you.

What can I say, I’m predictable.

Is there a line you won’t cross for fashion?

I don’t think so. I love all kinds of fashion. It’s art. Not everyone has the same art style, and I love that. I’ll try anything!

How would you like people to remember Chiffon?

That I’m just a guy. I’m not as intimidating as I look in my shoots. I’m just a guy.

Finally, what are you going to do now?

I’m going to eat those tiny sandwiches.

And with that, Chiffon made a beeline for the catering table. Within minutes the tiny sandwiches had vanished. Every single one except the cucumber, of course.
Somehow that felt like the most fitting end to an afternoon spent with one of fashion’s biggest names. Behind the magazine covers, runway lights and campaigns is simply someone who loves comfortable clothes, architecture, bubble tea, museums… and very small sandwiches.
